What do we do?

We are a community of students passionate about the intersection of biology and computing. Through hands-on workshops, we help members develop bioinformatics skills like using GitHub and working with computational clusters. Our events also provide networking opportunities with alumni and highlight campus resources. Beyond academics, we foster a supportive environment through social activities.

Everyone is welcome—we look forward to seeing you at our events!

What are bioinformatics and computational biology?

logo

Bioinformatics requires skills in many different disciplines.

logo

Bioinformatics develops computational tools to analyze biological data, while computational biology applies models and simulations to study biological systems. Both fields integrate computer science, statistics, and biology to explore complex biological questions.

Applications

  • Genomics & Proteomics: Analyzing DNA, RNA, and protein sequences
  • Drug Discovery: Identifying potential drug targets
  • Epidemiology: Tracking disease outbreaksn
  • Agricultural Science: Enhancing crop resilience and plant genetics
  • Structural Biology: Simulating protein folding and molecular interactions
  • Predictive Modeling: Training ML models to classify diseases based on genetic data
  • Multi-Omics Data Integration: Combining omics data for comprehensive analysis
  • And so much more!

Our Goals

Skill Building

We host workshops on topics like GitHub, command line, and cheminformatics. We also provide resources for students to learn independently and collaborate on bioinformatics projects

Networking

Students have the opportunity to connect with professors and alumni. We host alumni nights to learn from and connect with past bioinformatics students and work with faculty to learn more about their research.

Support and Outreach

We foster a supportive community through social events to grow the community of bioinformatics tudents at RIT. We aim to provide students with opportunities to collaborate and build friendships with peers who share similar interests.
